Frequently asked questions

What does TalkCam do?

TalkCam records one talking-head video in parts, take by take. Tap Record and the current video starts itself: stop whenever you like and continue from there, or come back days later. Choose Continuous on the capture home to record without a script (or with a full script kept together), or Split Script to paste a script and organize it into short scenes on device before filming. Each scene keeps multiple takes — a retake never overwrites the version that worked. In the editor, the assembled story plays above a scrubbable timeline: reorder scenes, switch takes, change the canvas, and export one finished MP4 to Photos. You can export the scenes you have already recorded before every scripted scene is done.

What is the difference between Continuous and Split Script?

Continuous keeps one video growing: after every stop, choose Continue Recording and the next part is appended to the same video for preview, editing, and export. Split Script is for working from a script: paste the full text, organize it into short recordable scenes on device, then film scene by scene with multiple takes each. Both modes share the same full-screen camera, takes, editor, and export path — you can mix a continuous start with scripted scenes recorded later.

Do I need an account?

No. TalkCam does not require registration. Projects, scripts, recorded media, and settings are stored locally on your device, and project content is not uploaded to any TalkCam backend.

Does TalkCam collect analytics or track me?

No. TalkCam contains no ad SDKs, no third-party analytics trackers, and no cross-app tracking; the app does not automatically collect personal data. Recording, editing, and exporting all happen on-device. The optional Apple Intelligence script split also runs on device; your script is not sent to a TalkCam server. If you email support, we receive only what you choose to send.

Why doesn't the recording include my effects?

By design. TalkCam captures a clean camera + microphone take so your original is never destroyed. The teleprompter never enters the recorded pixels, and effects are applied only when you export, via an offline render pass — so you can restyle stickers, retune beauty, and change the crop as many times as you like.

Does the teleprompter appear in the recording?

Never. The full-screen camera supports scrolling, page, card, and manual prompt modes with adjustable text size, speed, position, colors, and background opacity. The prompt is an interface overlay only and never appears in the raw recording or the exported video.

How does the timing report work?

After each take, TalkCam shows the total recorded time. With a script and visible teleprompter, it also compares paragraph targets with times estimated from when the reading position crosses each paragraph. It is a pacing guide, not a transcription of what you said.

Can I export before every scene is recorded?

Yes. As soon as a usable take exists, you can preview it on the timeline and export the scenes you have already recorded, then return to the project later to film the rest. In the export panel, choose 480p, 720p, 1080p, 2K, or 4K; 30, 50, or 60 fps; SDR or HDR; and the matching bitrate (some options require TalkCam Pro). Exports are H.264 or HDR HEVC MP4 with no TalkCam watermark.

Which devices does TalkCam support?

TalkCam is designed for iPhone and requires iOS 17 or later. Recording needs a device with a camera; the iOS Simulator has no camera and cannot record. If no camera is available but the microphone is — for example on a Simulator or a restricted device — Audio-Only Studio saves a standard, timeline-compatible video take from the microphone.

Camera or microphone permission was denied — what now?

Open iPhone Settings, scroll to TalkCam, and turn Camera and Microphone back on. TalkCam records locally; none of this data leaves your device.

Export to Photos isn't working — what now?

Make sure TalkCam still has Photos (add-only) permission. If you previously selected "Selected Photos" or denied access, re-enable it in Settings → TalkCam → Photos, then export again. TalkCam only writes the finished MP4; it never reads your existing library.

What do I get free, and what is Pro?

The free tier includes continuous recording, split-script recording with the on-device splitter, multiple scenes and takes, timeline preview, the teleprompter, text and logo layers, core editing (trim, split, delete, transitions, volume), and 480p/720p/1080p, 30 fps, SDR, compact or standard bitrate export, with takes up to 60 minutes. TalkCam Pro unlocks 2K/4K, 50/60 fps, HDR, high-bitrate export, unlimited take length, supplemental footage (B-roll), image stickers, noise reduction, audio fades, and gaze correction. It is available as an optional monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase.

How do I restore Pro?

Open Settings → TalkCam Pro Workflow in the app, then tap Restore Purchases.

How do I manage refunds, cancellations, or subscription billing?

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your device, open Settings, tap your Apple ID, then tap Subscriptions to manage or cancel. For refunds and billing help, use the purchase/subscription page in the App Store or Apple Support.

What should I include in a support email?

Please include your device model, iOS version, TalkCam app version, whether you use Pro, and a short description of the problem (a screen recording helps if you have one).
