MoodTide is a calm, local-first mood journal designed for everyday reflection. This page explains how the app relates to children and families, and what it does and does not include.
Age guidance
MoodTide is intended for general use and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
- Teens (13+) and adults can use MoodTide on their own for daily mood check-ins and short journaling
- Younger users should use the app together with a parent or guardian, who can help frame emotions in an age-appropriate way
MoodTide does not verify age and does not create profiles, so a parent or guardian is responsible for deciding whether the app suits a younger user.
Recommended use in a family setting
- Teens and adults can build a lightweight reflection habit — a one-tap mood plus an optional short note each day
- Parents can use it themselves as a calm personal journal; it is not a parenting-control or monitoring tool
- For younger children, a parent can sit alongside them and help them pick a mood and write a short line, treating it as a guided conversation rather than independent use
What MoodTide does not include
MoodTide is designed to stay calm and private by default:
- No ads and no third-party advertising trackers
- No account creation required for core use
- No public social feed, comments, or chat
- No in-app web browser for general browsing
- No automatic upload of your entries to any server
Where data lives
- Local-first: Your mood entries and notes stay on your device by default
- Optional iCloud sync: If you enable iCloud on your Apple ID, data can sync across your Apple devices through CloudKit. This is optional and under your Apple account settings, not something MoodTide turns on by itself
- Deletion: Uninstalling the app removes its local data. iCloud data is managed through your Apple account
Does MoodTide include parental controls?
No. MoodTide does not include a parental controls feature, a parent gate, or screen-time management. If you need to limit a child's device use or purchases, please use Apple's built-in Screen Time and purchase controls at the system level, which apply to the whole device regardless of which apps are installed.
Purchases (such as MoodTide Pro) are made through Apple's App Store and are subject to your Apple ID's purchase settings, including any restrictions you set there.
Network behavior
- Mood checking-in, journaling, and calendar review work locally on the device
- Network access happens only when you choose to open an external link (such as Support or Privacy Policy), or when iCloud sync is enabled and transfers data through Apple's CloudKit
